I’m here… Now what? (MT Week 3/17)

bouc_bel_airJames Bond would have been proud.  I arrived at the Marseilles airport, got a parking ticket from the El-Al desk, found a car with a specific license plate, took the key from under the front wheel, drove to a house somewhere in Provence and voila! I’m home.  James doesn’t need to know that I didn’t understand how to put the car in reverse or that It took me 40 minutes to find the El-Al desk or that after each thing I did or place I arrived, the only thought in my head was ‘Alright… I’m here… Now what??’ .  All that matters is that I successfully swapped houses with another family and that my Orbea is safely by my side. Giro D’hotel Dory

me_castleWhat better way to relax in Italy than to wake up every morning, have a nice big breakfast, get dressed and go for a nice long, relaxed… 140 Kilometer bike ride  up mountains, down steep roads with the constant fear of losing another riders draft on the flats.  Vacation has taken on an entirely new meaning to me. Ironman 70.3 – Where dreams come true

Gearing up

Have you ever had bright red legs that looked like they were sun burnt?  That itched like a mother…?  After cycling for an hour and a half? In 35 degrees? It’s a miracle that I didn’t scratch off all of my skin at that very moment.  Let this be a lesson for me and for the rest of us – Red is always bad, and dress warm when it’s cold!

Gearing up for Yom Kippur

Let me run a new theory by you.  In a day of fasting or just regular inactivity, an average person burns about 2,000 calories.  Why do we need to fast for 24 hours when we can simply burn those calories on a 3 hour bike ride?  This is what I did based on the obvious notion that a fast should be fast.
