Sweaty Tel-Aviv Night run
Sorry about the long delay but only tests occupied my time during the past month so I didn’t want to bore you. NEway! , I ran the 10k night run in Tel-Aviv! The race left from Kikar Rabin in Tel-Aviv and ended in the park. When I arrived at the Kikar, I hung out with a friend who lives nearby and then proceeded to the starting point with my friend Daphna. In this race there were about 5000 participants. Every Tel-Aviv resident who has ever jogged in the park or picked their nose, signed up and it was really really crowded. We all wore the ‘night run’ shirts which were in annoying mens sizes and after some acrobats hung from ropes, and the mayer counted down, we started to run. I started running a bit too fast and I was ahead of the 50 minute pacer. (Pacer – a runner that has a giant sign with the time they are expected to finish. You can follow a pacer to make sure you are close to the finish time you aim for … or far from it). After a while I was behind her though and it was tough because of the humidity. Along the way, there was music and people banging on drums which was entertaining. There were also many advertisements for.. Nike of corse. Anyway, I got to the finish line somehow. I didn’t see any 9k sign which was annoying because I usually pick up the pace. Not that it would have made a difference because in the end the 5k and the 10k races combine for the finish line so it was tough to get through. I ran the race in 54:33 and my friend Daphna ran it in 47:06. Then the parties began. The entire night was supposed to be a ‘white night’ which meant parties till the morning to celebrate that Tel-Aviv is considered an official historical landmark or something like that. Unfortunately, I had a test the next day and I had to get going but not before I took several Nike moist towels and Nike lemon popsicle. Long story short – I had a good time and it was nice having one last run for the season. It made me realize why there won’t be any more runs.. it’s too freakin’ humid and hot for anything … and on that note…
